The Ellie Biscuit 20 & 10-Mile Trail Trot was truly born out of necessity. Recognizing the severe lack of trail runs in the 30A area, the Ellie Biscuit was started, with the first race taking place on January 23, 2021. The entire race is held on the forest roads and trails within the Pt. Washington State Forest (via the Eastern Lake Trailhead off of CR-395). The 10-mile course loosely follows the “orange” trail, with the 20-mile course consisting of two laps of the 10-miler. If unfamiliar, these forest trails offer a (ridiculously beautiful) side of Florida that many are simply unaware of.
The Ellie Biscuit can be run as a solo effort or run as a team with your favorite running buddy. If you choose the 2-person team option, each of you will sequentially complete one 10-mile lap.
We should note that this is a relatively “bare bones” kind of race. While not going overboard when it comes to swag, you certainly get plenty for your money, to include: a beautiful and well-supported course, a bowl or three of the most delicious chili around (personal opinion, of course!), AND all registered runners will receive the official---AND HIGHLY-COVETED---Ellie Biscuit hoodie. Men’s and women’s solo course winners and runner ups from both courses will receive awards, as well as the men’s and women’s team winner and runner up.
We should also note that this is a trail run, with all of the goodness that typically comes along with trail runs, i.e. rocks, roots, stumps, large mud puddles, and maybe even a snake sighting…again, pure goodness! The point is, dress accordingly and don’t expect clean shoes at the finish line!
To reiterate, the race starts and finishes at Pt. Washington State Forest Eastern Lake Trailhead. If you put that mouthful into Google Maps, it'll take you right there. As a backup...once you make the turn from U.S. 98 onto CR-395S, proceed approximately one mile - the parking lot for the trailhead will be on the left. Just pull into the lot. If you pass the utility station on the left, that means that you literally just missed the turn into the parking lot. Turn around. If you find yourself in civilization, i.e. if you're seeing neighborhoods, the South Walton Fire Department Station, WaterColor Publix, etc., that means you REALLY went too far. Again, turn around and head back (north) toward U.S. 98. This time the utility station will be ON YOUR RIGHT...the parking lot is literally just past the utility station on the right. If the parking lot is full, just park in the adjacent grass to the north of the parking lot. Please pull straight in (i.e. you should be perpendicular to 395S) and please DON'T block the multi-purpose path.
Discounts. As always, first responders and active duty or retired military always get 10% off. Just use the HERO promo code at checkout. Also, if you want to run but the registration fee will truly set you back financially, please know that a few registrations have been set aside for such situations. Just use the WANTTORUN promo code at checkout. No worries and no questions asked. However, shame on you if you use either of those promo codes and don't warrant them. Seriously.
10% of the gross proceeds from registration for the Ellie Biscuit will always go to 30A Trails. They are doing awesome things here in the local area. Check them out at https://30atrails.com/
